A packed field, as these events so often are nowadays, created great anticipation with some of the counties best pros and amateurs lining up for the shotgun start.
The story though wasn’t quite as gripping or suspenseful as the pre-tournament chat would have suggested which is all credit to James Biggs who’s simply brilliant performance took all the drama away.
The defending champion led strongly at lunch by 3 shots despite excellent first rounds from members Steve Crosby and Chris Duffy. Biggs was already looking tough to catch on a day where scoring was hard and chasing was harder. Inevitably as the pack hunted for birdies they leaked a few shots too meaning Biggs’ job was becoming more and more comfortable. He finished his tournament out in the professional manor you’d expect. A 70 & 71 for -1 through 36 holes was enough to win the open by 7 shots seeing Biggs make it back to back Suffolk Open wins.
When the Suffolk Open is won by a professional we always celebrate the top amateur and this years award went to Chris Duffy of Gorleston Golf Club who’s pair of 74’s saw him two shots clear of the other amateur golfers.
The Nett champion of this years Open was Steve Crosby. Another local man scooping a prize and with a 70 & 76 in that wind the award was well deserved.
