The Junior finalists were decided first as Dylan Cook beat Edward Cobbold and Johnathan Points took out Sam Pruden. The seniors were the next semi-finalists on the golf course Graham Tait overcame Ian Woodhead in the only match of the whole day to see the 18th hole whilst Simon Bearman won his game against Steve Duffety. Finally the mens finalists would reveal themselves too with Taylor Crisp beating Sam Renville 3&1 and Russell Oakey getting the better of Alex Mair, also with a hole to spare.
In the Junior final Johnathan had got himself an early lead against Dylan and whilst both players played some solid golf Johnathan managed to hold onto it nicely. Johnathan’s final turn of the screw saw him sink a long birdie putt on the 15th - making a superb eagle on 16 which Dylan could do nothing about and Johnathan took the title, 3&2.
A similar story was unfolding in the Senior final with one player getting narrowly up on the other, this time it was Simon. Simon would have certainly felt his job was nearly done when he was dormie 4 up with a birdie chance on 15. Graham had other ideas on the 15th though as he holed a fabulous bunker shot for eagle taking the match up the long par 5 16th. Simon did manage to close the match out there though, only needing a half he gave himself 6 feet for birdie and as Grahams birdie putt narrowly missed, that was that.
Much with the theme of the day the early leader in the Mens final also proved hard to catch. Russell took a 2 up lead into the back 9 and whilst Taylor did snatch a hole back, Russell won 14 & 15 to go dormie 3 up. Taylor managed to win the 16th to take Russell up another hole but that’s where the fight back would end. After Taylors tee shot found some bushes, Russell used all his experience to close out the match there and then and win the Presidents Mashie.
