Thursday saw the first round of the Beaumont Shield. Holders Bury St Edmunds started their defence with a comfortable home win over Brett Vale who managed to overcome the perils of the A14 being shut. The finish of the day was at Newton Green who won the first play off hole to knock out plucky visitors Bungay and Waveney Valley. An equally convincing performance was from Rushmere who had a 2 hole victory at Ufford Park and move on to play Gorleston. Joining those in the next round were Hintlesham, Fynn Valley, Haverhill, Southwold, Thorpeness and the featured Felixstowe Ferry.
