Junior Open Series

The Suffolk Golf Union alongside the Suffolk Ladies County Golf Association, started the Junior Open Series a few years ago and 2026 will be the fourth year. All fixture dates are detailed below.
Designed to help promote the growth of junior golf within the county for both boys and girls.
Not only does it encourage golfers to engage with other like minded youngsters, it will help their development on and off the golf course by offering a platform to enjoy, compete, improve and develop their personal attributes within a safe and friendly environment.

Bungay & Waveney Valley Golf Club held their Junior Open on Sunday 30th August, the penultimate Junior Open for 2026, and what a great tournament took place with some fantastic scores! This event has also played a key role in the run up to the final Junior Open at Bury St Edmunds in September.
Henry Ridgeon (Stowmarket) had the best gross score of the day with an excellent 67, thereby taking the maximum points for The Series, closely followed by Jacob Severn (Bury St Edmunds) with a fine 68.
In the Net competition, young Seth Peters (Woodbridge) shot an amazing net 59 to win the category from local player Kit Rudling (Bungay & Waveney Valley) with a net 62. Handicaps will be reduced!
For the Girls, Abigail Hope (Bungay & Waveney Valley) played very well again, taking the gross with an 84 to take The Series points and Chloe Wignall (Felixstowe Ferry) shooting a net 75 to win that category and the net points.
So, this is now very interesting indeed going into the last Junior Open;
Henry Ridgeon now takes the top spot on 40 points, dropping one set of points (2 from Woodbridge), as he has also now played seven events (top six count). Johnathan Points (Bury St Edmunds) is in second place on 39 points, it couldn`t be closer with one Open to play!
Henry also still leads the net category in a commanding position, with Jack Johnson (Bramford) in second place.
In the Girls` - Abigail Hope remains at the top spot and is now on 41 points in the gross tournament, the only person who could match that tally is Chloe Wignall on 33 points.
Chloe Wignall also consolidates her position in the net competition, now on 42 points and very well done to Chloe too.
It will certainly be an exciting finish to 2026!

Junior Open Series Overview
Competitors qualifying for The Junior Open Series must be a member of a club affiliated to the Suffolk Golf Union and this club must be their “home” club for handicapping purposes.
The Series will run over the course of the qualifying competitions, with the “best 6” scores taken from the total number of participating events, in all four categories. Points awarded will accumulate to the individual performance during the season, there is no upper limit on the number of entries to the Junior Open`s that an individual may enter.
The following categories apply; Boys a) gross b) net, and Girls a) gross b) net.
Points will be allocated to performance in the following manner; 1st = 8 points, 2nd = 5 points, 3rd = 4 points, 4th = 3 points, 5th = 2 points, 6th = 1 point.
Winners of each category will be those individuals achieving the highest accumulated points over the season, taken from the “best 6” results as above.
