Junior Open Series
2026
The Suffolk Golf Union alongside the Suffolk Ladies County Golf Association, started the Junior Open Series a few years ago and 2026 will be the fourth year. All fixture dates are detailed below.
Designed to help promote the growth of junior golf within the county for both boys and girls.
Not only does it encourage golfers to engage with other like minded youngsters, it will help their development on and off the golf course by offering a platform to enjoy, compete, improve and develop their personal attributes within a safe and friendly environment.
2026 Series
Another weekend, another event and the latest was held at Newton Green Golf Club last Sunday 31st May. The course was in good condition on this fine day, which saw an excellent field compete with many from the County squads. A tricky course to score well, you have to negotiate it carefully and it is always an enjoyable course to play especially over the Newton Green common.
In the The Series boys` gross competition, William Cobbald (Bury St Edmunds) scored an excellent gross 69 to win the event and take The Series points. Playing off a handicap of 5, he also had a wonderful net 64 to take The Series net points too - A great day for William!
With just one girl playing, Chloe Wignall (Felixstowe), she takes both the gross and net points in The Series and moves her well up the board for the girls. Well done to Chloe!
So, to the overall position;
Patrick Coffey (Woodbridge) maintains his lead in the gross after four events with 17 points, with the two from Bury St Edmunds, Hugh Oliver and William Cobbald leading the net both with 11 points
In the girls competition, Abigail Hope (Bungay & Waveney Valley) remains at the top in the gross event with 12 points and Chloe Wignall hits the top of the net event with 13 points
