Habebul is Suffolk Open Champion

The Suffolk Open Championship was held at Hintlesham Golf Club on Sunday 12th September. 49 players took part.

The morning 18 holes saw Habebul Islam (Ipswich) and Jack Cardy (Hintlesham) both return 5 under par 67’s with Bryan Graham (Stowmarket) Alistair Hall (Assistant professional- Halesworth) and Chris Bartrum (Diss) all carding 70.

Play in the morning round was extremely slow as a result of which it was touch and go as to whether there would be enough light to complete the afternoon round, however, play quickened up somewhat in the afternoon making it possible to do so.

Cardy added a 73 in the afternoon, Graham a 71, Bartrum a 73 and Hall a 66 which saw him take the professional prize and finish second overall on a total of 136-8 under par. However Habebul Islam was the clear winner on 133- 11 under par after adding an afternoon 66.

Max Weaver (Bury St Edmunds) carded a 67 in the afternoon which added to his morning round of 71 saw him finish in 3rd place followed by Sam Forgan ( Assistant professional- (Felixstowe) with 73-67 for 140 beating Cardy on count back. Cardy took the morning lowest gross prize whilst Graham Wardley (Hintlesham) took that for the afternoon. Bartrum won the all day handicap with Graham taking the 2nd place prize.
