Bedfordshire pip Suffolk in SEG Under 18 League

On Sunday the 10th of July Suffolk U18s played the last match of the regular U18 league at Diss Golf Club. Suffolk were sitting top of the table and favorites to take the division.

The course played firm and fast and with small greens accuracy was at a premium.

Befordshire started poorly but then turned it around with some great play from their middle order. All of a sudden it became very tight and time to get the calculators out to see where everyone stood.

With the entire league on the line Callum Hughes was 2 down with 2 to play knowing we needed a half. Despite a wayward tee shot on the last, an amazing up and down resulted in a brilliant birdie to win the hole and get the vital half point. Playing in the last group and under tremendous pressure Harry Brinded yet again didn’t disappoint and came through winning both his matches and getting 2 points.

So it came down to the last game between Norflolk and Bedfordshire with Suffolk needing Norfolk to win the last game to give Suffolk the league title. In dramatic fashion Bedfordshire’s Leo Soe held on to win by 1 hole and clinch the division for Bedfordshire.

Congratulations to Bedfordshire who will go on to represent South East Group North division in the final in September.

Final table: Bedfordshire 9 points, Suffolk 8 points, Norfolk 1 point
